Robot TakeoverImagine a world where you didn’t have to do anything because robots did everything for you. A robot would do your dishes, get the shower ready, and do everything else in the house then you go outside. Outside robots do everything to, they drive you places, and they work in every store. With new advances in technology humanity might see a world completely run by robots. Robots already control a lot of things right now and robots just keep advancing with no updates or just a newer better version. Students turn in most of their work through computers, manufacturing just about relies on robots, people can have a drone deliver what they bought online. The new Amazon drone designed by Amazon can “deliver packages under five pounds in 30 minutes,” this “future[istic] service” is called Amazon Prime Air (Amazon Prime Air, Amazon.com). Car manufacturing is big manufacturer that has robots. The robots basically build all the cars. There is no medical service or worries, they get the job done faster, can make more than the average person, and they don’t have to take breaks or vacations. Some restaurants even have robotic waiters and waitresses serving people. Google has designed a car that drives by itself to make sure people are more safe on the road. Robots are slowly taking over the world just by advancing and trying to make people more safe and protected. - Trinity James |
Robots. Allies or Rivals? Can you imagine the world where robots run the show in the political, social, and economical? You can’t can you. A hundred years ago no one was able to imagine the world that’s stabilized by glowing screens where humans slave away, hunching down to type words. Humanity is at that point, though. The point of technology is needed for stability. Robots are a controversial topic, especially now, since people have come up with these “newfangled” human machines, as our grandparents would say. So what about the issue. A robotic future where humans are servants to the robots. It’s not an insane idea or even distant future. Should humanity really be worried at this point in time? No really. But what we are doing now reflects what technology we may come up with in our future: technology that has the potential to enslave or destroy us. At this point, it sounds like a movie, a very abnormal movie, but it’s a potential future of an immeasurable amount of possible futures for humans and everything we’ve come up with. Can we be too careful with a concept like this? Yes, it’s an outrageous idea, but it is our future. Let’s look at the facts. An uncountable number of jobs have been overrun by automation and robotics. Millions of people have lost their jobs to piles of nuts and bolts just so companies can make a quick buck. Is the idea of a robotic revolution preposterous. No, not at all. But we also have to evaluate all the good robotics has done for us and the potential robotics has to advance society into being more technologically and economically advanced. Robots have put humans into a state of bliss, taking over labor induced jobs like working in factories. Now people can look forward to finding jobs more humane to work in. Technological advancement has always been questioned. Now “we must ask what it means to translate not only productivity and profit but also other values into a system’s aims and permissions” (Chatfield, Tom. Guardian Newws) just as others in the past did. Are humans ready for such a big change? Will the machines we create be controlled by the hands of brilliant women and men, or will we be outsmarted by monsters that we created out of metal and chips. - Roman Olavarria |
